Winner of Moore Industries-Sponsored Cal-Poly Pomona Scholarship Visits Headquarters

Jose Saspa Scott Saunders

Earlier in 2016, Moore Industries sponsored its second financial aid scholarship to an eligible Cal Poly Pomona engineering student with their sights set on entering the industrial automation sector. Moore Industries began offering this annual scholarship in the 2014/2015 school year. To be eligible, candidates must be full-time students, meet requirements set by Moore Industries and submit an essay expressing why they have an interest in pursuing a career in industrial automation, instrumentation or the process control industry.

On May 23, 2016, Jose Saspa, the winner of the 2016 scholarship, visited Moore Industries for the afternoon. He met with Moore Industries’ CEO, Scott Saunders, and got a one-on-one plant tour and overview of the company.

Jose is a southern California native who transferred to Cal Poly Pomona from Mt. San Antonio College (also known as Mt. SAC) in Walnut, CA. Jose said his goals after college are to “expand, grow and be a part of something big” in pursuit of his engineering dreams. In high school he was interested in math and science and felt that engineering was the next step when the time came to decide upon a major.

Jose’s goals are to enter the aerospace industry after graduation, but after visiting MII headquarters he said the trip “opened my eyes to another industry to consider joining after graduation.”

Jose is slated to graduate in 2017.

Since Moore Industries opened its doors in 1968, it mission has been the same: To keep people, facilities and processes safe while ensuring accurate and repeatable control and monitoring. In offering this scholarship, MII is taking one more step in doing its part to ensure that the process control industry continues to progress and provide safe, robust processes in the future.
