Q. What product do you recommend that can take in a Modbus RTU serial signal and output multiple analog outputs? The serial signal can be from a fiber optic cable to remote devices or we can convert the signal from fiber optic to RS232 cable format.
A. Moore Industries’ NET Concentrator System Process Control and Distributed I/O (NCS) can be used for this. The NCS consists of a Modbus communications module (EMM) and a selection of I/O modules including a 4 channel analog output module (AOM). Multiple I/O modules can be plugged side-to-side and to the EMM to obtain the desired number of analog outputs. The EMM can function as a Modbus RTU Master, so it can query a number of Modbus RTU addresses on the RS485 data link. You will need a separate multimode or singlemode fiber to RS485 converter if you want to use fiber optic.
