A customer has a Safety Instrumented Function they need to implement with two independent level transmitters (radar), each wired to a separate STA Functional Safety Trip Alarm. The process will trip if either level reaches the set point, for example a 1 out of 2 (1oo2) voting. However, if the alarm trip (STA) detects an input or unit fault. The customer did not want the process to trip. Instead they wanted to take the faulty unit out of service leaving the process running with the one good level and alarm trip.

Most process loop indicators do a sufficient job indicating a process variable in the field.  But what happens when signals are from level transmitters that sit atop vessels where the level is not linear with volume and the loop indicator needs to display the volume?  Or what if yesterday’s installation area was a Div 2/Zone 2 location and today it’s a Div 1/Zone 0/1 location?  And what happens when you need to setup 50 loop indicators with tedious push button set up or a small HART handheld screen?

The products were purchased more than 25 years ago!
